The objective here was to convey characteristics of a particular season in a novel, unexpected way. I made this calendar page using a variety of techniques; first I began by cutting out colorful pages from a magazine in a leaflike design and then I layered and colored over them. Next, I scanned the cutouts onto my computer and edited them in Photoshop. The positioning of the cutout shapes was important in order to represent a pile of leaves, as well as to embody the plentiful harvest and colors so characteristic of fall. I consolidated the whole piece in InDesign, when I brought in the design I had completed in Photoshop and added in the bottom listing of months and dates. See below for some initial concept sketches.
