I worked with Ari Weinzweig, founder of Zingerman’s and Charlie Frank, pastry chef at Zingerman's Candy Manufactory to develop new packaging and elevate the visual identity for their Zzang! bar. With this particular chocolate, Zingerman's was attempting to surpass its former identity as a candy bar and begin to target a new, higher class market: that of gifts. They wanted a design that resembled more of a collector's item and had a more elegant, expensive look and feel, while still fitting in with the rest of Zingerman’s products which have a more illustrative, almost childlike visual identity. Portraying the story behind the Zingerman’s brand was an important consideration as well. I took all of this information into account when making careful aesthetic choices ranging from the form of the box to typographic selections and color combinations. See some development below, but delve into more of my process here. This piece won a place in the 2017 Stamps Undergraduate Juried Exhibition.
